Fort Young Hotel

Dominica

The Client’s brief required ARGO to salvage, re-imagine and redesign the Southeast section of Fort Young, damaged during Hurricane Maria on September 19th, 2017. ARGO’s approach to the architectural design of the Southeast section of Fort Young Hotel went beyond the physical elements, recognizing the cultural and historical significance of the site.

The focus was on preserving the spirit and essence of the fort’s history by acknowledging and incorporating it’s intangible heritage. Through this approach, ARGO created a design that paid homage to the site’s past, ensuring that the new structures harmoniously coexisted with the cherished narratives and memories associated with Fort Young.

The design approach focuses on integrating the Old Fort with new buildings and spaces as envisioned by the client. Obsolete concrete structures, timber, and backfill material were removed to reveal the original Fort fabric.
