Old Oven Gallery and Marquis Bar and Lounge, Fort Young Hotel - Dominica

The Marquis Bar and Lounge is situated in what was once the troops’ barracks. Along the stone wall of this room and the land side of the fort are musket holes that remain intact. The floors, walls, and ceiling treatments are simple, refined, and resilient, in keeping with local traditions. The wood floors are laid in a herringbone style, the original stone walls are preserved, and the volcanic grey render and wood ceiling with a natural finish contribute to a cozy and familiar atmosphere. The Marquis Bar and Lounge also benefits from natural light and passive ventilation provided by the opened walls and high-level louvers.

The Wine and Rum Cellar and the Old Oven Gallery stand as testaments to the vision shared by the client and ARGO in rescuing, preserving, and re-purposing heritage structures damaged during Hurricane Maria. These structures have been transformed into fully functional contemporary spaces, benefiting both hotel guests and the people of Dominica.
