Located in the jungle, this Welcome Pavilion is a key hub for guest flow and interaction at Secret Bay, a boutique resort on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Regarded as the nexus of the resort, the Pavilion welcomes guests and gives opportunities for pause and re-orientation before proceeding to other resort amenity spaces.
The building was carefully designed as it is the first structure guests see on arrival with careful attention paid to environmental sensitivity and energy efficiency throughout the design. Envisioned as an intersection of paths, The Pavilion sits at various key intersections: guests arriving in vehicles, going to and from the funicular, and moving to and from the Beach front Area.
The main canopy extends out to provide shelter and functions as a porte cochere, sharing importance with an exceptionally mature tree. Across, another path interrupts the main direction to lead you to the funicular station. Beneath these three wings, the building houses 2 offices, restrooms, a gift shop, and a waiting/lounge area.
